Cardiac Care Clinic at Delta Hospital

Heart disease is serious and requires prompt diagnosis and treatment. As Kathy Haslett, a Delta Hospital Cardiology Technician, explains, “most of the time, it’s a life or death situation”.

The good news is that heart disease is both preventable and manageable, if you take the right steps. Things like what you eat, how much you exercise, and quitting smoking are all factors that can help you keep your heart healthy. That is where Delta Hospital’s heart related programs get involved.

The Cardiac Clinic, where Kathy works, saw over 2200 patients in 2015 and that number is expected to grow as the population in Delta grows and ages. It is the job of those who work in the clinic to investigate what might be the cause of shortness of breath, palpitations or chest pains in a patient.

Most people who enter the Cardiac Clinic fear the worst. The clinic often sees patients with noticeable symptoms of cardiovascular disease or abnormal heart rhythms. But sometimes they see patients who may not feel any obvious symptoms and are actually on the brink of a heart attack.

“We have a great program here. Heart disease can affect anyone and what we do is lifesaving work”, Kathy reminds us. “If we can help someone before they suffer a heart attack or stroke, we’ve made a difference”. It is because of you that we have been able to purchase new and innovative equipment for your heart which helps more patients go home healthy.

When you have an issue with your heart, it’s important to have an outstanding medical team to respond. Whether it’s Dr. Shaw in the emergency room, the internist in our Rapid Access Clinic, or Kathy and the team of cardiology technicians at Delta Hospital, you have access to some of the finest medical professionals that are supported by the most up-to-date equipment.
